Ankara fabric- Broken Records

This is the fabric I used to create the "Ankara Camouflage". I named this fabric "Broken Records' because it was inspired from the record disc player of the olden years.

Oranges

The inspiration for this design is from freshly ripped oranges we used to pluck from the tree when I was growing up back in Nigeria. This is zoomed out. Another version is zoomed in.

Eye Fence

This fabric and others were inspired by the fascinating animals of the Sahara desert of Africa. Specifically, it is the eye of a camel I saw back in 2003 when I was in that region during my National Youth Service Corps.

Scopions

These Scorpions also live in the Sahara Desert. In creating this guy, I explored different tools in Illustrator such as the pencil tool, eraser tool and others. I used the pencil tool to trace the outline of the scorpion painstakingly I'm very happy with the outcome.

Eye-Cross

Eye-Cross is the eye of the camel arranged in a cross shape. After creating the motif which is the camel eye, I manipulating it as a saw fit across my designs. I used the Line Segment tool, and the Ellipse tool to create this eye as well as the pen and curvature tools

Ankara Print Masks - Red

I used same masks as the Ankara Print - Yellow to design this piece but with a different background.

Polka Dots - Dark Blue

For this fabric, the eye of the camel is arranged in a cross shape while also attaching zoomed in eyes.

Scorpions

A scorpion is duplicated, resized and different colors applied.

HOHO- red

Snakes & Eye - Yellow

This fabric has the eye of the camel and a snake - one of the guys living in the Sahara Desert. Everyone of my designs is unique and special to me because i put all my heart into it.

Brooms & Dry Leaves

Designing this fabrics was fun although its more time consuming due to the intricacies involved. Ankara wax fabrics are also known by other names like Nigerian wax, African wax print, Holland wax, and Dutch wax and so forth. Ankara wax has African root due to the African tribal symbols and motifs used to create them. Ankara print is a 100% cotton fabric. The motifs are dry leaves on the ground and a broom to sweep them. Some of the tools used to create the motifs are: Arc Tool, Ellipse Tool, etc

Its cob-web-like record discs or CDs - 3 colors. I had so much fun working on this piece. I used the Pencil Tool, the Spiral Tool, Pen Tool, and the Curvature Tool in illustrator.

Ankara Print Masks - Yellow

This design was the most difficult and time consuming of all my designs so far. Each mask took nothing less that 8 hours to create including times when mistakes were discovered and corrected and the computer crashing and all that. On the fun side I learned how to use a tremendous amount of tools in the process.

Seashells

I love this design. Its an attempt to replicate something that looks like sea shells or things that live on the bottom of the sea. The one tool i enjoyed using during the process of creating this art work is the Free Transform Tool which I used to distort the shape of circles drawn with the Ellipse Tool and the almighty Shape Builder Tool! This tool does amazing things including trimming the edges of the motifs.

Eyeballs - Yellow

Eyeballs - Yellow is the eye of the camel zoomed in. The lashes are around stroke size 5.
